Gunships won't auto-repair on patrol

I like to set up patrol orders from the factory when I build gunships. The problem is, despite building a repair pad and setting a damage limit, aircraft coming from my gunship factory just don't seem to want to repair themselves. Am I the only one with this problem?

Autoretreat widget handles this, not patrol.

Patrol merely sets a fight command from one point to another, automatically toggling tactical AI. Autoretreat does what its name says: it automatically retreats damaged units. By default all units will fight to the death, however, there is a widget to set all units to retreat at 66% health or something like that. Once the unit starts retreating, it will stay in a designated repair area or land on a repair pad until it is fully healed, after which it will resume its last command.

Its the little chicken icon on the side of the command card. Once the unit reaches 33% / 66% / 99% or something like that, it will automatically fall back to a repair pad or nearest designated repair area (there's a command to designate one in the command card.. forget the icon though).

Hope this helps clear things up.

@Shamanpluk from what I can tell he is using the chicken state toggle. He wants to know why the state toggle does not cause them to go to repair pads.

I think gunships do not automatically go to repair pads because pads are an expensive source of repairing and they are more valuable for planes (because planes need reloading too and have trouble stopping). To use retreat for non-planes set a zone with the ambulance button and put some constructors nearby with area repair orders (or patrol).

Isn't it a wrench button in a green circle now? I don't think its been an ambulance button in a long time.

So it is. It is a wrench in a white circle.

Thanks AUrankAdminGoogleFrog. I'll make note of that with respect to gunships vs. planes.

Problem is - if I set a retreat zone, I can't make the zone just for aircraft.
