1v1 Late game strategy?

So I am faced with a conundrum. In the early game 1v1, against the CAI, I expand rapidly, colonizing as many mexes as possible, throwing up defenders here and there, build 2 or so radars to provide intel. I start with Shield factory, using primarily Bandit swarms and Rogues. They are cheap, so I can produce many fast, and raid enemy mexes as well.
So then, as I get 2/3 of the map, the enemy starts to porc. They buy heavier towers (I saw dense LLTs and Stingers) and either builds gunships or heavy vehicle factory to counter my light units. So often, I end up with a losing battle despite producing and utilizing more metal/energy. So how should I counter? If I buy another fac and produce stuff with it, I risk losing some of my mexes because my light units can't stand assault long at all. If I continue, the tide is turned. So suggestions?

sorry for long post.

Essentially it is same as late game in teams- you want to eco up and tech up. In super late game you can get things like Dante or Scorpion.

Against porc, units like ravagers, reaper, hermits exists. Or artillery like wolverine, impaler, hammer. With shield bots, thugs are the unit to build to smash through porc and you can mix racketeer/felon too, maybe aegis for nice shield ball. With cloaky, snipers are great for punishing porc opponent.

Nothing wrong with porcing yourself also, you can even win with porc push, get things like annihilator or an aggressive missile silo to smash enemy porc or napalm enemy base.

That post isn't long ^-^

It actually sounds like what you're doing is fairly good. All of Drone's comments apply for breaking porc later in the game.

Usually if you can get them to the point where they're porcing, you've already won. Just make sure you continue to expand your eco the entire time.

When up against CAI - Nuke. CAI doesn't know how to make anti nuke so it is just a cleaning tool honestly.
When up against real player - you already got the answer from GBrank[Fx]Drone.

If you are up against a real player who is porced up in a corner, nuke is still a good idea. Just the Tactical silo, Inferno to burn any caretakers, 2 Eos for the factory, Infernos to clean up the rest.

Granted, if you are really ahead and figure you can hold out for 5 minutes, then Silencer can work, but it's basically playing for style.

Impart replay then I will reconsider my statement.

Oh and also you use very interesting vocabulary USrankGreenLantern101.
"conundrum" "colonizing mexes"
Sorry I just wanted to point this out for some reason.

the ai was almost destroyed then it spammed Athena a zenith and had already built an anti-nuke.. it seemed like odd behaviour =P

here is replay with ai making protector almost at start.. http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/340009

says ai_unknown ???

so "CAI doesn't know how to make anti nuke" is still valid

That'd be RAI then. RAI is neither supported or developed by Zero-K. 90% of the time it won't do anything productive (EG: makes a huge caretaker farm and spams athenas) and it will never plop its factory. Its basically a total newbie AI. Although newbies are far more useful than it.

Since you're learning how to play shieldfac, which is a good easy fac, just learn about how to make a shieldball.

Try replacing some or all of your Rogues with Thugs. Add a couple Outlaws if the enemy is using raiders, or just a Felon once you've built enough shield power (4-6 thugs). Once you have a couple Felons, add in Aegis. A felon shieldball will butcher most Gunship compositions.

You might also want to try just adding Racketeers. They counter both Tanks and Stingers, and even the heavier gunships (Blackdawn/Brawler). They'll work quite well alongside your current Rogue/Bandit composition (Though you should learn how to make shieldballs too).

If you own most of the map and are worried about trasitioning out of bandits and not being able to respond to enemy raids, static defenses of your own are not a bad option, particularly Lotuses which are very strong against raiders. These won't be as much use against his Tank/Gunship switch though.

If the gunship switch is the real problem, just make sure you have AA prepared, make a Razors Kiss or two at about 8-10 minutes (Or whenever you expect the switch). Consider going Planes, even if you just use the fighters, they generally counter gunships unless he is spamming Rapier (In which case, I'd suggest just eat them with a felon ball).
