You can (request to) add a Spanish translation at https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/zero-k/ if you are interested. Anyone else is also welcome to contribute.

I promise to use all the immense power i have gathered to make the game use it whenever anyone translates at least 50% of units for any given language.

Some units already have inlined Spanish translations, but the way this has been technically implemented in the past prevented maintenance from happening.

Honestly I feel that ZK mostly needs Spanish and Russian versions as people from Russia and Spanish countries don't speak english very well (at least some of them that is).
To everybody's knowlage: R]right now Zero-K has unit descriptions (I mean like all of them) only in polish and english.

ZK is prepared to have Russian units as soon as the LockFree changes become merged to Spring main, as this will allow us to finally upgrade and have Unicode support which is required for nonlatin languages.

We also have a 19% complete Vietnamese unit translation.

Some parts of UI, i fear, are not yet internationalizable. If the engine update actually happens, that would change.

Also German, though don't quote me for how many. The stats are not available because the currently existent non-transifex translations are not done in an optimal way for either contribution or inspection.

These would eventually need to be programmatically uplifted into the new age.

Does the current UI support RTL? (I'll be very surprised if it does)

+1 for Spanish (and Russian) version. Also German texts need to be updated. Where can changes to certain texts be suggested?

If language infrastructure is implemented better, it should be not too difficult to find people to write texts for most languages, because programming skill isn't required and small improvements can already be used. Quality and updates of translations is another issue.

Currently, Github.

Alternatively you could use banana's extraction script to generate yourself a datum of existing German strings and include it into Transifex so non-coder people can contribute.

Once again, i volunteer to maintain sync between transifex and zk for such packages, but you could also extract and PR the finished translations yourself as well.

Mini-poll: if you were to use ZK in your native language, would you have the unit names translated? Why (not)?

It was chosen to keep the names untranslated for the russian translation project to facilitate easier communication between players.

Ah, good, that solves the problem then.

What about displaying both the English name and the translation? Or would that take too much space?

Actually, names in description are translated, but with originals names in brackets. Like "Утка (Duck)"
