Area Attack AI Suggestion

The current "Attack Area" is useful in only some very particular cases (mostly for bombing runs). Especially for artillery, it serves very little purpose (if you're in range and get either radar or LOS, they'll attack everything assuming they aren't on Hold Fire).

In oTA, I could give artillery chained orders to attack the terrain, and it would rotate through those points (very useful when blind-firing strategic artillery like the BB), which could be used to put chokepoints under continuous fire even when I couldn't keep LOS on them. It seems that a similar functionality for artillery "Attack Area" could be helpful, where it would fire randomly in the defined area until told to stop (would make it possible to actually lay Wolverine minefields without insane micro). As it stands, only the Tremor can be used for "area denial" artillery attacks.

I'll look into that. =P

Although you do want an "attack all in area" command.

No promises on when I'll finish though, since my term is starting and I don't expect to have alot of time.

By the way you can do that with repeat enabled.

I just tried it, it just attacked the first point over and over, putting it in Repeat mode didn't help. Tried throwing some movement orders in, if there were only movement orders they would repeat, as soon as I threw an order to attack the ground in, the unit would stick on that (and stop moving).

Idk what's going on, unless you used test. Try with stable to be sure.

Just did it in a game hosted by Springie, same thing.

Which unit?

I've used lots of different units both land and sea, it doesn't seem to matter.

I agree that an attack terrain command would be awesome, so many uses for that!

I never used this "special" widgets much, because they need too much space at "~/.spring/widget-knowledge".

But seriously - if you select a radar dot and hold the mouse button to draw a circle it works - randomly, not equal.

Bombers should prever AA and normal ground attack don't work - for me too.
