First time in a while playing 1v1. Any tips to improve would be greatly appreciated.

So it's quite a long game with a lot to unwrap and descends into a team games style porc-off quite quickly.

Firstly I'll say that you're somewhat lucky that your opponent was also playing a very teamgame porcy style, because if you were against a relatively in-the-loop 1v1er, they would have scouted you with one of the first fleas and absolutely flooded your JJ base with them and it would likely be over in 2.5 minutes.

Here are a few early game fundamental issues:

1. Minor point, you didn't position your commander optimally between mexes. Try to do so if you will use engineer. However, map specific tip: Recon is a great commander here because of the distribution of cliffs and expansions.
2. Little tweak: I noticed you didn't jump with your jump constructor to gain extra expansion speed. It's handy.
3. Queueing up moderators before scouting the enemy is a no-no. Scout with a light raider first, in this case, puppy. Then build units in accordance with what you've scouted.
4. On this map there is an absolute abundance of reclaim around you. You made no use of it. This might surprise you but this map often sees 5-7 constructor starts with JJ and quite a few with other factories too.

I could labor minor points for ages but instead of going any further, I think just focusing on a change of mindset would be more helpful than me taking apart everything bit by bit. Since you already understand ZK quite well the absolute best thing you could do to help yourself improve in 1v1 is to watch some of the replays of top players, particularly on this map, and try to see what we're doing. We're actively scouting, constantly economizing as fast as possible, reclaiming, only defending it if necessary, and always trying to find a way to make cost against the opponent.

Multiplayer B876957 2 on FrostyCove v1.11 is a fantastic example of spiders top, JJ bottom with lots to learn on show.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Quick question, is there an effective way to deal with lances/crabs without having to fac-switch from jump-bots?

Crabs like to sit on their spires. Get a Jugglenaut and pull them down, then stomp on them for extra damage.

Lances like to shoot things from afar. They can't shoot what they can see. Get an area cloaker and life becomes much harder for them. You can even walk up to them with melee units this way if they're not careful!

HKrankgoldspaghetti If you watch my replay, you'll see the cloaked puppy technique. That's a lances worst nightmare.
