Metal is the first and most important of the resources in Zero-K.

Sources

The primary source of metal is metal extractors, which can only be built on metal spots. overdriving metal extractors with Energy increases their metal production.

reclaiming wrecks of units and buildings yields up to 40% of the wreck's metal value. Some reclaimable features like rocks also yield metal.

Storage

Metal is stored by the Commander and Storage for buffer. Storage is global and abstract, so losing storage capacity only reduces stored metal if the stored resource is above the new limit.

When storage is full, excess metal is automatically shared equally with teammates.

Uses

Constructing any unit or building requires Metal.

Metal may be gifted to teammates through the team overview UI
