if you consider paralyze dps with very short stun times to be roughly worth a third of normal dps, 120+300P dps would be roughly equivalent to 220 dps. It has 300 range like shotgun and 10% more dps, but no AOE, so it kind of evens out.
I stopped using the lightning gun even before the recent 10% dps nerf because:
- relatively low base dps means more time standing there shooting at things until the targets die (more likely to have the commander disabled or killed)
- worse anti-raider performace compared to MG (no aoe, likely to overkill)
- the 15% range disadvantage compared to beamlaser means you need an extra level to get enough range to trade with some skirmishers like ronins
A thing to note is that there's the upgrade to improve stun times, which is a strict improvement and allows you to permastun the target.
Disruptor ammo sucks : you're paying 300 for something that basically makes your commander weaker. The "high caliber barrels" (for shotguns and riot cannons) was removed from the game. Napalm warheads drastically reduces the dps of riot cannons, but not rockets.
The balance between commander weapons and modules isn't very good...
